"The Body" rewatch

kathleen_dailey MuchMoreMusic is rerunning BTVS, and I've come in right in the middle of season 5, just in time to see "The Body" and the preceding couple of eps. I had to go to Wikipedia to find the original airdate (February 27, 2001). If anything, the impact of this ep was stronger than it was the first two or three times I watched it a decade ago. I know that "best TV episode of any show ever" has been said many times about "The Body," but I just wanted it on the record that I still believe this to be the case. The actors' performances are astonishingly nuanced, and of course the writing and directing are outstanding. The difference between my viewing in 2001 and my viewing in 2011? I didn't cry when I first saw "The Body"--just sat there gobsmacked by the sheer power of the story and the performers. Last night, however, I actually had tears in my eyes. The passage of ten years of life and death will do that for one, I guess.
