Just in case the Muse sees this post
Jan. 21st, 2026 04:30 pmI've been thinking about the forthcoming
halfamoon, celebrating female characters in fandom, and as always I'm looking forward to reading the contributors' fic and recs.
I've reconciled myself (mostly) to the idea that I'm unlikely to be writing any more fiction; but if a Muse of Stories should ever condescend to visit me again in this lifetime, I'd ask for her help in writing three works:
(1) A credible fixit for TNG's "Reunion," so that K'Ehleyr could join the list of Trek characters who turned out to be not permanently dead. I was utterly taken with that character, and I've never gotten over my rage at TPTB's treatment of her.
(2) A credible fixit for Bell, Book and Candle, so that Gillian comes to her senses, kicks Shep to the curb, and--maybe by discovering a grammarye in an unexpected context, maybe by attending an Avon house party where the bottles of lotion and perfume contain some unusual substances--reclaims her power (and Pyewacket). Bonus points if she meets Mame Dennis and the two of them engage in many secular and supernatural capers together.
(3) A credible fixit for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, so that Yu Shu Lien revivifies Li Mu Bai, who (like K'Ehleyr) is thus rendered not permanently dead, and he and Shu Lien (like Gillian Holroyd and Mame Dennis) go on to live a long life full of adventure, altruism, and extraordinary events.
Huh. There might be a bit of a theme discernible in both my actual and hypothetical fic.

Date: 2026-01-22 02:22 am (UTC)Yes, that was my feeling also. I couldn't believe that the story ended where and how it did. I thought for a long time that I might attempt a fixit, and I actually wrote a bit of an outline. But eventually I realized that I wanted to address the characters' story in depth, and that I would need to do a daunting amount of cultural and historical research if I hoped to do them justice. I just didn't have the time or energy.
Please keep those wafts coming! If your enticements work, maybe the Muse will smile in my direction ...
