This episode and "Hegemony, Part 2" were less than I'd hoped for after such a long wait. Other reviewers and commenters have outlined the shortcomings and strengths of the episodes in detail. Oddly, the thing that struck me most forcefully was that Spock and La'an, in the "are you asking me to dance" scene at the end of WBB, had a more tangible, perceptible connection--maybe even chemistry--in their 90-second encounter than Spock and Chapel have had in two full seasons. For me, the actors seemed to bring their characters to (credible) life in that scene--something that hasn't happened often.
I'm aware that I'm probably a minority of one in reacting to the scene this way.
It's a busy weekend--including another memorial service and a bunch of non-easy errands. From Mimi Smartypants: "The only thing I miss about being a teenager is effortlessly and unmedicatedly sleeping until noon on a weekend. Can you even imagine?"

Date: 2025-07-20 12:35 am (UTC)I have to set an alarm, even in my retired state, if I want to be sure of being awake before noon, because otherwise I will happily sleep for ten hours. The insomnia of age has fortunately missed me.
What I do miss is falling asleep when I go to bed. Been years since I would drift off in the evening, surface for just long enough to get my clothes off and contacts out, and fall right back again.

In the olden times, I used to be able to write when I couldn't sleep. These days, I get up and consume blather from the TV and the computer (which of course doesn't help with the whole getting-back-to-sleep process).
