"First things first: 'No""

Probably of interest only to Toronto-based readers.
In September of last year, I posted an entry about the film Charlotte's Castle and a link to the film. Today, BlogTO has a feature about the latest outrage to be visited on these lovely buildings.
BlogTO says, "Planning documents specify that the existing heritage building would be retained in-situ, suggesting that residents of the current complex would not be displaced during construction. New levels would be set back from the street in an effort to minimize the addition's impact on the street below." And if you believe even one word of that, I have a magnificent bridge spanning Bajor's Glyrhond River that I'm willing to sell you at a bargain price.
There's a discussion and an excerpt from the proposal's cover letter on Urban Toronto.
As might be expected, many of the high-rise fanbois who post on Urban Toronto post don't see much of a downside to further degrading the buildings and making life even more miserable for the remaining tenants. Thankfully, however, not all of them feel that way. One UT poster said, "So you're going to support this box using a massive structural column into the Courtyard, which you will shadow 24/7 hereafter for all eternity, rendering it dark and lifeless? And a new structural wall is also off to one side on the south and it will block entirely multiple additional windows."
Charlotte's Castle outlined the developer Prowinko's abysmal treatment of the tenants and the building itself; from what I can tell, the new proposal confirms that Prowinko is wholly committed to carrying on with more and more and more of the same.
