Apparently I'm 100 percent lacking in the courage of my convictions.

I promised myself about two-thirds of the way through Lost that I would never, no never, not ever again watch anything that Damon Lindelof was involved with. And then I spinelessly stuck with that series until the very bitter end. Next, I found myself helpless in the face of the words "Star Trek," and I went and paid money to see not only Star Trek but also Star Trek: Into Darkness. After that, though, I was happy to forget all about Lindelof until yesterday, when I watched the first episode of Mrs. Davis, a Peacock series that airs in Canada on the CTV Sci-Fi network. Lindelof is Mrs. Davis's co-showrunner (along with Tara Hernandez, from Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon).

I know that many viewers were lukewarm to hostile after seeing the first few episodes, and I know that many more are there just for Betty Gilpin, and no one can blame them for that. But I already know, even after seeing just one ep, that I'm going to be there for the transcendental weirdness, the batshit mysticism, and the plain old gonzo mindfuck.

I don't want to say too much about the first ep, partly because I don't want to spoil anything and partly because I feel like I need to watch it again so that I can see and hear all the details. Vulture has an excellent and spoiler-light review and summary of the show's premise and performers. I agree with the writer: "Mrs. Davis is the kind of television experience best entered into with an open, unpolluted mind."

Looks like I'm backsliding once again (at least for the eight episodes of this series). I just hope I won't be eating crow garnished with strawberry jam two months from now.
