Surfacing
Deadlines met, appointments kept, obligations fulfilled, doomscrolling paused. All of those things are certain to recur, but for now... Well, sufficient unto the day, etc.
1. Via The Rec Center: Carry You, a Phryne/Jack (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) vid by Ellie that is deeply affecting. The creator captures the essence of the characters and their story.
2. I agree with the sentiment, if not the syntax: One under-appreciated breed of fic writer are the ones who hyperfocus on logistics to the exclusion of all canon shortcuts, and thus usually strike upon an awesome way to flesh out the worldbuilding or characters.
3. Elle Cordova, Grammarian Versus Errorist: "By the power of the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, I redact thee!"
4. A Canadian traveller recently engaged the services of a mystical "villain hitter" in Hong Kong: How Dr. Steve Brought Down Elon Musk.
5. Small Town, Big Story: "Yes, alien abduction might seem a somewhat fantastical notion, but, suggests [series creator Chris] O’Dowd, it’s no more outlandish than the fae and woodland spirits that often typify tales set in Ireland--or, in fact, the idea of God." The show isn't hardcore SF, though--it's a bit like Resident Alien in its weird genre-blurring whimsicality. I'm enjoying Christina Hendricks's performance as a Hollywood TV producer who comes to her home town in Ireland to Ireland to shoot a big production. The Guardian has an extensive review and summary. I hope the show gets another season.
6. In honour of the Easter mythos, here's the seasonal link to my short story about two participants in a self-help class for the unwillingly resurrected--taught by an expert--who get to know each other during a coffee break.
And this particular day is evidently called "Spy Wednesday." Huh. Although I was Catholic-schooled for many long years, I never once heard the day referred to by that name.
