The spouse was resistant at first because he believed (though I showed him much evidence to the contrary) that the technology of hearing aids was clunky and flawed, and he thought that because he was an audio engineer he knew more than the experts did. When he finally, reluctantly, met with the audiologist, she wowed him with her knowledge and her technical mojo; and when he got a look at the actual hearing aids--tiny, nearly invisible, and hugely efficacious--he became your typical convert. Now he's proselytizing about the wonders of hearing aids to anyone who will, so to speak, listen. :-)
