"Wildly exciting and equally irresponsible adventures"

Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard was disappointing, but nevertheless I'm going to give season 3 a shot. Episode 1 worked in part for me. I'll have to do a rewatch to catch more details, including all those Easter eggs. Spoilers follow.

--Laris! Although the character is still being written, and the actor directed, as far too human, her presence was very welcome. The writers could have taken her intelligence-operative storyline to lots of interesting places, but my guess is no--we'll probably only see her in fic from now on. (I hope we do see her!)

--Captain Shaw (no relation to Areel, presumably) deadnaming Seven. Wow--how is that even permitted by Starfleet? There must be more to Shaw's anti-Borg storyline. And the writers really went to some trouble to portray him as shockingly rude and hostile to Picard and Riker--for a reason later to be revealed?

--Captain Riker looking so very handsome. (Even Picard noticed.)

--A mention of Captain Rachel Garrett (commemorative statue destroyed, but at least we know her memory is honored. I'll take whatever I can get.)

--The Ressikan flute. Okay, way too easy, but it touched me nevertheless.

--The lucky presence of an open carton containing Picard's old (and still working--how?) Starfleet commbadge, so that it could chirp just when Picard was there to hear it.

--Jack Crusher. Oh, writers, come ON. One David Marcus is plenty. Don't do what I fear you're going to do.
