The X-Files re-whateveritwas

That first episode was hideously, unspeakably, Chris-Carterly awful. The writing was ghastly, the direction worse. (Why is Flat Affect such a widespread thing these days? Do directors think it confers gravitas and signals serious drama? I would really like to know.) And I will never be able to not think "What is Jeff Winger doing in this show?" no matter what Joel McHale's next dozen characters are named.

Many people assert that the next two eps are better, and supposedly the third was written by Darin Morgan. I stuck with the original XF till the grisly end, and I swore that I would never be sucked into another doomed long-term commitment. Although I backslid at least once (looking at you, Lost), Darin Morgan's participation means that I will stick around for a bit. But this travesty-so-far is programmed into my PVR on borrowed time, tellyawhat.

Chris Carter has a LOT to answer for.
